Living Christ’s Prayer for his Disciples in the 21st Century Part Three

Let us often recall, my dear Sisters, what we must never forget, that we are in the world but not of it, and that we are there only to procure the glory of Jesus Christ to whom we belong. Marie Adelaide de Cice, First Circular Letter (undated)

One subject that has frequently come up lately in conversation is the whole issue of how electronic devices are becoming more and more prominent in our lives, especially to our detriment.

One of the inspirations on which our founders based the establishment of the Society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary was John 17: 15 in which Jesus prays for his disciples: “I do not ask you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the evil one.”

One of the challenges for all of us, whether we belong to a religious order or not, is the whole issue of the acquisition of belongings.  Living in a consumer society as we do with its heavy emphasis on success equated to the monetary value of our homes, cars, clothes, and personal possessions, can result in our experiencing a strong temptation to focus on those standards rather than Christ’s standards.

A Current DHM Ministry Deeply Rooted in Our Past

Pay regard not to the substance of the things you do but to the motive which causes you to do them and this must be the motive of love.”  Adelaide de Cice, March5, 1797

Pope Francis in his 2014 Easter Vigil homily spoke of fact that one of the meanings of what Galilee signifies for each of us is “the experience of a personal encounter with Jesus Christ who called me to follow him and to share in his mission.”
